In 1988 at the age of 16, Jason started with the Del Mar Lifeguards as a Beach Aid where he assisted with washing vehicles, cleaning lifeguard towers, assisting in water safety contacts, and helping answer questions from the general public.

In 1990 he was promoted to Lifeguard I and after 3 years he moved up the ranks to Seasonal Lifeguard II where he was a Supervisor during the busy summer months. During the Winter months Jason was also an Enforcement Officer. Jason went on to work for Del Mar Lifeguard and Community Services Department for 17 years. During that time he was an IRB (inflatable rescue boat) Instructor, EMT, President of the Del Mar Lifeguard Association, and was part of the Del Mar Lifeguard Diving and Swift Water Search and Rescue Team.  

Jason went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree in Economics from UCSD and is now a Sr. Technical Recruiter and Consultant for a number of technical consulting firms and Fortune 500 companies. He is married to Stephanie Hermann (now Rubio) who was also a Del Mar Lifeguard and is proud to say that he has two sisters in law, Anique Hermann and Julia Hermann who are also now part of  “California's Finest” as Del Mar ocean Lifeguards.

Lifeguarding will always be in his blood and Jason is thankful for the mentorship and leadership skills he received during his time with the Department.
